In this workshop, you will learn how to accessibly print at home, without much effort and most importantly without any press! We will work out the perfect foundation for your own printing practice and teach you how to print woodcuts, linocuts, and monotypes.
Usually, if you want to make some prints, you have to go to a workshop and ask for technician's help or make a press of your own. You have to find a location, plan your visit and pay for the rental or printmaker's time. All this is complicated, not always affordable and makes spontaneous working and experimenting with new techniques nearly impossible.
In this seminar, you will learn about the historical, artistic and technological background of printing. Furthermore, we will visit the Kupferstichkabinett and see some original prints. In the practical part of the workshop, we will focus on the individual artistic practice of the participants and apply the following techniques:
– Woodcut (with baren and spoon)
– Linocut (with baren and spoon)
– Monotype
In each technique, you will learn how to carve different blocks/plates using proper tools, how to apply different printing methods and use the gained knowledge to produce works of your own.
