Curating Sound Art – Exhibiting the Auditive

This workshop conveys substantial knowledge in curatorial practice of an exceptional art form that occupies the margins of the visual arts as well as music. You will also learn about special skills that are required for its presentation.

The workshop is conducted by experienced lecturers.

The program is targeted at anyone interested in up-to-date art positions and particularly those working on development and realization of art exhibitions in museums and galleries with aspirations of integrating sound art into existing curatorial practice.

Lecturers and experts: Sabine Sanio, Dorian Lange and guests 

Sabine Sanio (*1958) is the head of the Theory and History of the Auditory Culture faculty (Sound Studies master's programme) at the Berlin University of the Arts. She studied German philology and philosophy, is the author of numerous publications on contemporary aesthetics, media history and media aesthetics, sound art, new music as well as on the relations of the arts among themselves. Her published author books include "Alternativen zur Werkästhetik: Cage und Heißenbüttel" (Alternatives to the Aesthetics of the Work: Cage and Heißenbüttel) [1999], "1968 und die Avantgarde" [2008]. As an editor she published "Borderlines/Auf der Grenze: Georg Klein" (Borderlines/On the Border: Georg Klein) [2014], and together with Christian Scheib "Das Rauschen" (Noise) [1995].

Dorian Lange, B.Sc. in Digital Media with focus on digital media in education and experimental methods in artistic research. Also focused on working in the context of media events, exhibiting and curating media art within the MFA programme in Media Art and Design at the Bauhaus University Weimar. Currently conducting a combined artistic/research thesis in Sound in New Media at Aalto University, Finland. He is a fellow of the Hans Böckler Foundation.
