On Caring Coexistences – Invisibilities of Care

An intergenerational artistic workshop by Maternal Fantasies (Maicyra Leão and Magdalena Kallenberger) using performative exercise, photography and creative writing to explore autobiographical and bodily experiences as material.

How can we explore and stage ambiguous relations between adults, children and our environment?

At the center of this workshop are body, text, and image. In the first part, we will introduce the participants to relational body practices and performative exercises developed by Maternal Fantasies collective during the past years. In the second part, we will explore with the participants creative writing as a tool to investigate individual, autobiographical experiences as material and source in order to design new caring infrastructures. In the third part, we will fuse performative elements and excerpts of our texts in order to develop and stage in collaboration with our children fantastical scenes around the InVisibilities of Care.

***

This is an intergenerational workshop for both adults and children (0–10 years). The sessions will happen collectively as well in specific groups of adults and children, in parallel.

The participation fee is by family. It is not a requirement to participate with your child/ren.

REQUIREMENTS

We kindly ask all participants to bring and wear plain colored and comfortable clothes without patterns or prints (no dinosaurs, no unicorns) f.e. blue shirt, green trousers or skirt, etc. Please bring water, snacks, and toys that the children could share in their off-time.

Day 3 – Assembling InVisibilities

Maternal Fantasies is an interdisciplinary group of international artists and cultural producers based in Berlin. They shape the discourse on motherhood through collective artistic processes while enhancing the visibility of contemporary feminist positions addressing motherhood(s) in the arts. From writing autobiographical responses to classic feminist texts to devising performances using children’s games, their art practice favours inclusive community-oriented experiments as alternatives to traditional structures of art production. Bridging theory and practice, their strategy transforms research on motherhood(s), care work and representation in the arts into frameworks for immersive modes of critique.
