The circular economy is a smart approach to extending the life of resources. We are developing artistic models in which an existing material will go through exactly this process! Looking for the possibility of the perfect cycle.
Resources are finite. The aim of this workshop is to look at how we can conserve resources. This will enrich rather than limit the artistic process. Sustainable consumption and the conservation of resources is a global goal.
We are researching the possibility of the perfect cycle. The focus of artistic activity is the experience of an effective process.
We experiment using one material, one resource, as an example. In our workshop, the resource will be Cardboard. Cardboard is one of the most widely used packaging materials, with a market share of 67.1% in Germany. It will be about inventing production cycles and experiencing them together.
The starting point is an empty room. We will develop a site-specific installation for the workshop period that captures our utopias of future coexistence. With our co-actor, the cardboard, we will design and implement our ideas. This will make our utopias visible for a week and then disappear back into the cycle at the end of the workshop.
Your individual utopian ideas form the basis of our collective action. We will work in small groups. The workshop will start with the procurement of materials. The aim will be to procure existing material in our system that we can work with without acquiring anything new. Pooling knowledge will be the first resource-saving step towards working with circular systems.

The exploration of different materials and spatial structures is central to the development of my spatial designs. The audience is invited to view the respective theme as if through a burning glass. The focus of my spaces is our social coexistence, especially existing social injustice. This is particularly visible in the spatial installation “We need to talk”, which I created in collaboration with the artist Gunilla Jähnichen at Circus Eins in Putbus. The starting point is the #metoo debate. Since 2018 I am teaching at several universities always in the context of spatial design. photo: Vanessa Nicette

In my artistic work I deal with the possibilities of expressing emotions. These are initially reflected as variations of facial expressions and gestures on an elementary level of communication before they motivate actions in private or social contexts. My visual language moves between figuration and dissolution of form. I also carry out a wide range of programmes in art education, cultural education and artistic educational research. photo: Sebastian Poerschke
