Pendulum - An Interactive Sound Installation

#music #performance

Referring to Steve Reich's feedback idea of Pendulum Music (1968) Pyras and Weise transfer the possibilities of movement and sound to space. We work with the interplay of body and object in space, the rhythmic shifts and the in-betweenness of expectation and silence.

W h a t   I n t e r e s t s   y o u   a b o u t   p e n d u l u m ?

In the audible quality of sound?

in the quality of movement in your body?

in the phenomena of thinking?

The frequency?

The correspondence?

The superimposition?

The interference?

The shift?

How does the inner period of the pendulum come into contact with your body?

How does the space of movement come into contact with your inner listening?

How does your perception of space influence your playing with the sound objects?

How does the periodic movement of the sound objects come into contact with mobile things?

Which experience of movement creates a sound?

Which experience of sound creates movement?

We will research this and engage in a performative exchange

Dorothea Weise is a tenured professor at the University of the Arts Berlin since 2008 and head of the local eurhythmics department. In her teaching she emphasizes the interplay between music and movement, sensing and acting, improvisation and composition with a focus on research-based learning. Artistic productions include interdisciplinary themes and collaborations, site-specific work and performance projects in the context of work with students, e.g. for the exhibition "Und weg mit den Minuten" with works by Dieter Roth at the Museum for Contermporary Art Hamburger Bahnhof, based on the abstract film "Rhythmus 21" by Hans Richter, "Rational Melodies" in collaboration with Olaf Pyras.
